Asylum (Audible Audio Edition) Elizabeth Cameron Paul Cameron Books
I have been trying to read this book for months, and I just can't get through it. I had a few problems with it. First, and most noticable, was the editing, or lack thereof, in my version. I sometimes got very confused trying to figure out what she was trying to write because of the lack of punctuation. You don't realize how important commas are until they aren't there at all. Hopefully that has been fixed.Second, I didn't like the character much. She seemed to be one person in the asylum, and another on her boat. I also could not figure out how an architect was able to stand in for a psychologist to do this job. I'm pretty sure you have to have some training and/or a degree in psychology to do the "favor" she was doing for her friend.
Third, I just could not get into her style of writing. I found myself skimming over the words with no idea what I was reading, bored with the "action", and wondering where she was going with certain things. So, 38% of the way through, I am done.
I so wanted to like this book, it looks and sounds intriguing. But the execution of the story, for me, leaves a lot to be desired, and I cannot get past the editing issues.

Asylum (Audible Audio Edition) Elizabeth Cameron Paul Cameron Books Reviews
I read this thriller today and couldn't stop until the end. Then I wanted more. Loved the character Mia! I am not a professional reviewer but I know what I like. I read a lot of Dean Koontz and James Patterson and I wasn't disappointed with this writer. I like that I have been introduced to some really good new authors on kindle store. Recommend this book to anyone who likes a good thriller with lots of twists and turns!
Overall I enjoyed the book and would give it a 4. For most of the book, the various pieces didn't seem to fit together at all (and honestly some places that weren't about the asylum I just skimmed through), but in the end all the pieces came together nicely.
The grammar and spelling were good, but there were a lot of missing punctuation marks and misplaced or missing quotation marks- I got sidetracked having to go back and re-read sections trying to figure out what the author meant. I really wanted to figure out what was going on with Jennifer, otherwise I might not have kept going because of those difficulties (hence my 3 rating).
The description of the story is a bit misleading. I was expecting more of story to be about the asylum. I was expecting more horror and scariness. It did have some of that, but it was more of a mystery/suspense than I was hoping for. The good news I also love mystery/suspense books so I did like the story very much. The typos were a little distracting, but I was able to get passed them. I think that for the price it's a decent read. There is a high probability that I will read another book by this Author. I just won't read the description first.
I really wasted my time with this book. It was too convaluted. What does a private investigator living on a fishing boat have to do with an asylum. The stupid woman never wrote her report. She trusted her boat neighbor without really questioning anythng. She almost ended up dead several times by trusting this guy. As I said, stupid! I still don't know what happened to the other people in the asylum. No one resolved the mystery of the dead grounds keeper/nut case. The only redeeming feature of this book was the front cover.
There was almost no punctuation, and what there was, was incorrectly used. I could almost imagine that this story was written by a child in grade school who hadn't yet learned how to punctuate, except for the story itself. The book was confusing to read, with constant run-on sentences. It very drastically needs an editor. Again, the story was good. Why not learn how to punctuate? I would suggest waiting for the re-write to anyone considering purchasing.
I did not like this book. Thinking I was going to read a book about life in an asylum, it turned out to have very little to do with an asylum. The first few pages had me riveted then it was all down hill from there. I had no idea what was going on. It jumped all over. The main character, who has lived a very sedate life, all of a sudden is living the life of James Bond times ten. Good suspense-no. Good romance-no. Good thriller-no. I couldn't even tell what type of book this was suppose to be. Very disappointing.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I first opened this book, but what I found was a very enjoyable read. I'm looking forward to reading more of Elizabeth Cameron's work.
The character of Mia was really likeable and her budding relationship with Paul provided a sense of fun and relief against a dark, mysterious backdrop of events. The plot was suspenseful as Mia delved into the goings-on at an insane Asylum. I was pleased that Mia's character was strong but had realistic reactions, rather than being overly sure of herself at any time. I also loved that I was never really sure of Paul and his motives until the end, and that he had his own story which merged with Mia's. Once started, I had to read to the end and I would've liked one more chapter. This is a perfect book to read on a rainy night!
