read instructions first; I did not & have made comments in inappropriate chapters.
Great idea to give rather than a journal ;]
I got an older version of this in high school during some rough times in my life and I found it to be very helpful for me. I was exstatic to find an updated version 20 years later!
cool way to get started journaling
I have an earlier version and have truly enjoyed it. This one, a more recent edition, was a gift. My friend enjoys the book.
After a short introduction, this is almost a blank book. Each page is headed by a list topic (e.g."List all the idiotic things you've done for money"; "List all the phone calls that changed your life"). The rest of each page after the topic is blank ruled paper. When completed, the book is a self-inventory. For people who are not otherwise inclined to keep a journal, this book could be an excellent freestanding tool for self-discovery. As a practical matter, however, due to the thickness of the book and the stiffness of the binding, it is a bit of an effort to write in neatly. This book would have been a lot easier to use if it were spiral- or coil-bound.
I actually like this book quite a bit and use the topic suggestions as journal prompts, because it is easier to write in a separate notebook than in this actual volume.
Love these books! Revisit them every several years and enjoy seeing how much my attitude and opinions have changed over time. You should try these to take a private little inventory of yourself. Highly recommend!
I love making lists, and I also love journaling. This book combined the two into a fun and thought-provoking exercise and keepsake. I completed a list yourself when I had graduated high school and then began another upon graduating from college. It was interesting to see the differences and similarities that were in each.
Now, I could see this book as a useful tool in counseling, especially with clients who are struggling with issues of identity and self-awareness. The prompts in the book could be really useful in therapy as a rapport-builder or beginning exercise.
